Richland Electric Cooperative Scholarship
Eligibility:
- Applicant or applicant's parent, parents or legal guardian must be a member of Richland Electric Cooperative.
- Any graduating high school boy or girl.
- Student will incur costs from the post secondary institution.
Selection Criteria: Based on maximum award for being equal to 100 points.
- 100 points for attending the REC sponsored Youth Leadership Congress.
- Up to 50 points for an essay related to the applicants understanding of the cooperative form of business and their personal experience with cooperatives. The essay shall not be less than 1000 words or more than 1500 words.
Amount: The amount of any individual scholarship shall be subject to a maximum award which will be determined annually. Award amounts shall vary based on scoring achieved when evaluating the candidates performance related tot he scoring criteria listed above.
Application: Applications are available at the office of Richland Electric Cooperative and area high school guidance counselors. They will be standard in form and contain information sufficient for the scholarship committee to arrive at a decision as to the ability and need of the student. A person interview with the committee may be held prior to the final decision. Application, and essay or statement by the applicant they attended YLC, and a senior picture should be returned to the office of Richland Electric Cooperative by March 15.
Manner of Payment: The scholarship will be paid to the school upon proof of enrollment from the student.
2021 Charles Van Sickle Scholarship
2021 Charles Van Sickle Scholarship The Federated Youth Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce that it will award the fourth Charles Van Sickle Scholarship in 2021. The $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a pre-law or law student who has an interest in cooperative law. The scholarship is made possible by an endowment established in 2013 to honor Wisconsin’s renowned electric cooperative lobbyist and attorney, the late Charles Van Sickle. The scholarship will be awarded during the Spring 2021 semester.
Eligibility:
- Pre-law or law students who reside in Wisconsin and have an interest in cooperative law are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to students whose parents or grandparents are members of cooperatives, credit unions or mutual insurance companies.
- Applicants may be awarded this scholarship only once.
- Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point of 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale.
- Applicants will be judged on leadership, scholastic achievement, extracurricular activities while working on his or her undergraduate degree, personal motivation, academic and life goals.
- To be eligible, all areas of the application form must be filled out and submitted together.
- Attach to your application transcripts through your most recently completed semester (undergraduate or law school) and a copy of your Spring 2021 course schedule.
- Scholarship applications will be judged by a selection committee appointed by the Foundation.
- All applications are due at the Federated Youth Foundation office no later than April 2, 2021.
2021 WECA Scholarship
2021 WECA Youth Leadership Congress Essay Contest. All students participating in the 2021 Youth Leadership Congress are eligible and strongly encouraged to enter the WECA Essay Contest. Scholarships are awarded as follows to the authors of the top three essays.
1st Place - $1,000
2nd Place - $500
3rd Place - $250
Scholarships are paid to winning students upon presentation of proof of registration at any accredited college, university, or technical school in any state.
Contest Rules
Essay Topic: While energy is a large part of an electric cooperative's mission, in what other capacity do they invest in the communities they serve outside of bringing broadband technology to rural areas? What is the importance of this action(s)? What things do you think the cooperatives could be doing for the community that isn't already being done?
- Students are encouraged to use personal experiences to demonstrate their understanding of the value of cooperation in their lives.
- Students can reach out to their local electric cooperative for information pertaining to the essay topic.
- Knowledge of the subject, originality, grammar, spelling and neatness will be factors used in judging essays.
- Only essays postmarked by the due date or received via email by 11:59 p.m. will be eligible to win.
- Essays must be a minimum of 600 words, but not more than 1,200 words.
- Essays must be typed, double-spaced, and on white letter-sized paper. Essays will be copied for distribution to the judges, so please be sure your essay will copy clearly.
- Students may win a WECA essay scholarship only once. If a student is awarded a scholarship the first year they enter, he or she may not enter the contest again.
- Scholarships must be claimed within 2 years of receiving your notification of scholarship selection.
